The Americanos

Monterey
Monterey

1846

first had come adventurous men who chose to become citizens and to marry daughters of California. These men were builders, some became owners of great ranches and were trusted members of the community. Then came the flood of settlers and there was political confusion. Warren Texas came between Mexico and the United States. The nations were watching and through the respected influence of American consul Thomas Larkin the Americanos were favored. The Californians love their country and the way of life, many preferred it to me remain as it was, but it was a weak country and already five different flags it flown over the customs house in Monterey. Then on July 7 of 1846 the Stars & Stripes was run up and there it has calmly flown for more than 100 years.
