Hernando Cortez

and in the year 1535 Hernando Cortez sailed out of the harbor of Acapulco, in a further effort to find a country which he believed lay to the north of Mexico. But he sailed aboard a homemade galleon and after many attempts in failure he was able to reach only as far as the southernmost tip of what we call lower California. Here he could see that the land was surrounded on at least three sides by water and so he believed he had found an island and for an island he had a name because he had read the story of us plan in. Cortez the conquistador of Mexico lives in history but Montalvo the writer might have been one of the most forgotten man who ever lived except for one word that he wrote in a book and the word was the name of the fanciful island of California.
