The Covered Wagon



Westward rolled the covered wagons – Prairie schooners drawn by oxen. Jan the mountains and the desert was California. In May 1841 the first wagon train was organized by John Bidwell at Independence, Missouri. And under the leadership of John Bartleson ate headed northwest over the Oregon Trail to Fort Laramie and Fort Hall, turn south along the Humboldt River, climbed over the Sierra and that November reach the great Valley of San Joaquin after six months of struggle. The workmen Brolin party took the southern’s route to Santa Fe and through the hardship of the desert to K Hahn passed and send Gabriel only a few days later. Always threatened by Indian attack, by desert thirst or starvation in the mountains the covered wagons rolled westward.
