Tubac in northern Sonora was the outpost of Capt. Juan bought to study Anza the son of IE frontiersman, Danza was the colorful and active figure selected to lead the first overland expedition from Mexico proper on the land wrote California. January 1774 Anza set out from to back with 30 men to make a trail across the desert in the mountains. In March they reach San Gabriel Mission and this proved the practical overland route. The group of colonists gathered in Sonora to found the mission and Presidio of San Francisco. And in October, 1775, and the again left to back with the great expedition of 240 men, women and children that crossed the mountain safely to California. By spring they reach journeys end on the Bay of St. Francis.
