Mission San Luis Ray was between San Diego and Capistrano in that rich valley of the river called San Luis Ray. It was June 1798 when the 18th mission was established and less Wayne equaled the record of Sarah. Antonio pay re-of San Luis was a great worker. He helped the Indians make bricks while he taught arts and crafts and a better way of life. They planted wide fields, raise livestock by thousands and produced in abundance. San Luis Ray became the greatest mission in all of California. The beautiful church was built by Antonio Rocha who had assisted at Santa Barbara and the buildings and garden took 7 acres. When after 34 years father pay re-was to return to Spain the Indians followed him to the ship and prayed for the beloved padre.
